Lapwing chick, South Pennines 6 July 2011

This beautiful Lapwing chick was wandering around by a wet flush in a pasture in the South Pennines near Halifax.

The date seemed a little late for this single brooded species, so I presume it was another nesting attempt by a failed pair. Lapwings have nidifugous young (nest-fleeing) that can walk about straight after hatching, unlike most other species that have nidicolous (nest dwelling) young.
