IIRC, the tall building was 225 Santa Monica Blvd.

...that's right...it was completely refurbished several years ago, now called The Clock Tower...as kids we just called it the clock building, and anyone who found a way to get to the top terrace below the clock was greatly envied...the intersection in the foreground is Arizona Ave., with the Criterion theater - now a Mann multiplex - just down the street...spent a lot of Saturday afternoons there, and at the El Miro, down the street...this is what a proper city downtown should look like; small, family owned businesses...not a G****** mall filled with flagship stores and panhandlers...

As an Angelino (by birth!), I recognized this scene right away, though it's been 30 years since I lived there. (The Rexall Drugs is before my time, though...),

ps I am a friend of Karen's; I just noticed that I had wandered from her Flickr onto yours. But I like the scenery -- mind if I look around?
