Thurmond West Virginia, Population: 7

    Newer Older

Thurmond, once a busy railroad town of about 200-300 people, is now a preserved ghost town run by the national park service. The railroad station is a stop on the Amtrak line between Chicago and New York City.

Here's a photo of what the station looked like a long time ago (don't know the date): www.wvepostcards.com/postcards/?picture=/pimages/p7316.jpg

      Thanks everyone!

Maddy: One of those cars is mine! :-) I think the visitors outnumbered the residents that day! :-)

Thurmond is such a neat place to photograph. It's a perfect place to shoot at night with the full moon above the river . . . I really like how you composed this image w/ the rail lines in the foreground . . .

i think that's the perspective and geometry of the railways that i like the most. nice bw!

I have been to thurmond on many occasions. I caught the train there about 5 or 6 times. I never really thought about how historical it is because I lived here my whole life. Very cool pic
