The Angel Drinking Fountain

    Prev Next

This drinking fountain originally stood outside Christ church at the junction of Colmore Row and New Street and after the demolition of the church in 1899 it was resited in this location.

In 1988 the fountain was restored by the Planning Committee of the City Council, the Cathedral Close Community and Messrs Wragge and Company, Solicitors.

    The book reads
Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again on the left page and

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst on the right

This is a quote from The Gospel of St John (Chapter 4, V13-14)

13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
