Sun and rain over Hellesylt

The village of Hellesylt is surrounded by mountains and valleys and has its own waterfall flowing into the fjord.

We started a 1.5-hour ferry cruise along the Geiranger fjord from here.

It was raining when I was taking this photo.

Hellesylt is a small village in Stranda Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county. The village lies at the head of the Sunnylvsfjorden, which is a branch of the Storfjorden, and which the more famous Geirangerfjorden in turn branches off nearby. Population in 2013 was about 253.

Hellesylt is under constant threat from the mountain Åkerneset, which is about to erode into the Sunnylvsfjord. A collapse could cause a tsunami destroying most of downtown Hellesylt.
