Power at Sea
St. Michael's Wing of the Hofburg palace, 1893, facing the square.
After the completion of St. Michael's Square, in 1897, two sculpted fountains were installed on the façade of the wing: Power at Sea by Rudolf Weyr and Power on Land by Edmund Hellmer.
The main character is an allegorical representation of Austria , which stands on a ship's bow. On the right side of the ship's bow seen by the viewer is the word WEYR 1895. On the fountain basin rises a rock with the sea god Neptune, a fallen giant and a sea monster.
The wing of the palace is named in reverence to St. Michael's Church on the opposite side.
