The Lights of Larimer

This is Larimer Square, a popular area of the Lower Downtown (LoDo) neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. You can find many restaurants and shops here. At night, this is what you will see.

Larimer Square and Larimer Street are named after Williiam Larimer, Jr., who was a senator from Kansas Territory (later to become the State of Kansas).

More importantly, Larimer was the founder of the City of Denver in 1858. “Denver” was named as Larimer’s tribute to the Governor of Kansas Territory, James W. Denver.

For you history enthusiasts, this means that Denver was originally a city in Kansas before Colorado Territory was established in 1861, which eventually became the State of Colorado in 1876. Denver is the capital and largest city in Colorado.

This will be the last photo I’ll post for a while, friends. I depart to Europe this weekend, and will be away for two weeks. In addition to more photos of Denver, please also look forward to some dynamic new images of London and Paris in July.
