Bouquet of Pink Pelargonium

Someone asked if I did a cutout using photoshop for this photo. I had a hard time explaining how I did the effect on-camera using off-camera flashes+light modifiers. Photoshop was applied only to sharpen and tune the levels in post production.

In order to ge the black background, I metered the leaves, and set my shutter 3 stops lower. Set my grid 1/2 feet away slightly in front of the flowers and pointed about 45 degree down. Power setting was at 1/32.

  

5DM3 + Sigma 150mm Macro + 580exII + DIY Grid + Phottix Strato II triggers

 

No plants nor flowers were pluck, cut or hurt during the photography.
