The Small White & the Big Blue
I love the sea, the beach, the dunes.
Unfortunately I'm not living at the coast, but every time I set a step on the sand and smell the sea it's like coming home.
The endless view, the quiet, the beautiful light. No houses, no traffic, no city noises. Just waves, birds, some yellyfishes and a lot of sand.
Past week heavy weather was announced, so: time to go to the beach.
When I arrived the weather was heavy indeed, but not the real storm I had hoped for.
So in stead of of waves smashing the pier I focused on the little sanderlings.
This was actually the first time I saw these little funny creatures.
They are only around 18 cm long (40-100g) and I was rather surprised to see they weren't blown away by the hard wind....(which would have made some nice pictures ;))
While I was having a hard time avoiding the splashing water and the sand blowing in my face and gear, the sanderlings just continued their high speed running and flying like on a calm windless day...
