Recently I blogged about a new project that I am starting called $2 portraits. The idea is that I will offer $2 to anyone who asks me for money from now on in exchange for their portrait.

Earlier today I ran into Joseph on Polk Street just North of Broadway. Joseph was sitting on the sidewalk and as I walked by asked me for change. I told Joseph about my $2 portrait project and he agreed to pose.

Currently Joseph said that he was living in one of the many pay by the night San Francisco hotels. He said that he was a Bay Area native and that he was raised in Redwood City but also lived in Texas for a number of years.

I asked Joseph what he thought of our new President and he said he liked him. I asked him if he voted for him and he said no. He said he was in jail on election day.

I asked Joseph about his family and he told me that they were all deceased now. Joseph said that he didn't really work, that he just asked people for change whenever he needed money.

After a few more words I gave Joseph his $2 and was on my way.
