Manx Shearwater gets lippy with gull
I found the Manx Shearwater (on the right) bobbing around on the water in harbour at Kilmore Quay. It is very ususual to find a Shearwater so close to shore, certainly inside a harbour alongside a fishing boats. In September 2000 I found a young Manx Shearwater in a car park in the centre of Ennis. In that case the night before had been foggy and it was probably attracted by the town lights up the River Fergus from the Shannon Estuary, but I'm not sure why this one was in the harbour at Kilmore Quay. The Manxy 'made faces' at the gull but didn't utter a sound.
