Normally I dont go on the lookout for a particular gender of my next strangers but after five consecutive male subjects I thought it would be nice to get a female again. She would also have the title of the 'first Australian Female' in my 100 Strangers project. With that being said, I introduce to you Nicole - my eleventh stranger.

Melbourne is a place known for having 'four seasons in one day' and this particular day sure was one of those. It was early morning on what was a very cold, overcast and windy day in the CBD and I was freezing. My fingers were numb and my hair was being blown every which way it could. Sitting down in the amphitheatre of Federation Square I see Nicole, braving the cold conditions with barely anyone else around. This in itself was a strange seen as this is one of the most popular areas in Melbourne and its normally buzzing with people. Nevertheless, it was cold, my fingers were frozen and I wanted to shoot a stranger today.

As always, I casually approached Nicole and asked if she would be willing to be apart of my project. After a small hesitation she agreed and said "sure, why not". This was actually much easier than previous stranger shots as the overcast skies were giving a really nice soft light across her face and I had no crazy indoor mixed lights to deal with. The only trouble I had was constantly waiting for the sudden congo line of people walking behind her to move out of frame.

Nicole is currently doing her PHD in Molecular Virology here in Melbourne (I wasnt exactly sure what that was at the time but it sure sounded impressive). She's originally from the small country town of Yackandandah which is in North Eastern Victoria but has been in Melbourne for the last seven years. As I handed her my card her friend appeared who she had been waiting for, both him and myself commented on the cold weather to which Nicole replied "Am I the only one who isn't cold around here?", to which we all laughed before we said our goodbyes.

So thank you Nicole for being apart of the project and thanks for being one of the only soles braving the conditions this morning. I hope you like the portrait.

On another note, I've had a few people think Nicole looks a little like Natalie Portman, and I can see some resemblances there - anyone else think so?
