The 20th International Bioinformatics Workshop on Virus Evolution and Molecular Epidemiology (VEME)

The 20th International Bioinformatics Workshop on VEME took place from August 9-14, 2015 at The UWI St. Augustine Campus. The workshop is recognized as one of the best international virus bioinformatics courses in the world. It provided 90 participants the opportunity to undergo intensive training in the mathematical principles and computer applications used in the study virus evolution and for conducting detailed molecular epidemiological investigations. The workshop also included lectures and computer practical session where students analysed their own research data. Student participants also presented a poster about their research.

Ad part of the proceedings, two Open Lectures were held at The UWI St Augustine’s Teaching and Learning Complex, starting with the official Workshop Launch and Open Lecture – Pandemics Past and Present by Professor Edward Holmes of University of Sydney, Australia and Next generation technologies and potential applications in human health and disease by Professor Karen Nelson (J. Craig Venter Institute, USA).
