The best self-portrait
Full of fairly transparent metaphors. Helmet with googly eyes? It's my helmet, and I'm kind of a goof. Bicycle? Well, you figure that out. And I'm in front of the canal because I do spend a good bit of time on the water.
If I could do it all over again, I would use a small amount of fill flash on the advice of my class.
One shot after I took this photo, I was composing and focusing and everything, and I noticed—did my bike just move? OH SHIT IT IS SITTING RIGHT ON THE CANAL IT IS FALLING IN. I sprang into action and ran over and grabbed it when only most of its rear wheel had taken the plunge and the front was still in the process of rolling off the edge.
And that's how I nearly lost my bike in the Erie Canal for art's sake.
