Goodbye to the greatest dog that has ever lived: Perlita, 1993-2008
Alameda, CA - August 2007. On the morning of May 3rd, 2008, my best friend was euthanized after severe health issues made her life too miserable to go on. She was beautiful, intelligent, and had such a large personality that I am now left with a huge void in my life. She was a fierce protector (known as "Four Pounds of Fury"), who thought nothing of flinging herself at the face of a Doberman, Rottweiler, or any other big dog if she felt my safety was threatened (which it rarely was). She was famous: she did the dog noises voiceover for the Tim Burton film, "Ed Wood", starring Johnny Depp (see article). She also provided the hidden track at the end The Tantrums' "Motels" CD (and was pictured on the back). Perlita survived being mauled almost to death by raccoons in 2005, and surgery for a dislocated shoulder in 2007. She was the smartest dog I have ever known; her problem-solving abilities were legendary. She was the best. I loved her more than words can express.
