Meet the Young Ambassadors Class of 2017-18
In October 2016, the Lowline launched an innovative youth mentorship and job training opportunity, the Young Ambassadors Program. Designed to deepen and expand the Lowline’s commitment to youth education and engagement, this program builds upon over 3 years of the Lowline Young Designers Program. Twelve brilliant local teens will receive science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) focused peer education and mentorship— strengthening local community-based organizations and promoting youth-centered public design. Our Young Ambassadors have been making ripple effects in the Lower East Side neighborhood by developing their own community greening projects, exploring career paths with Lowline partners and teaching STEAM concepts to local youth. This fall alone, our Young Ambassadors stewarded LES parks and gardens, learned about the latest in green building design and sustainable energy at NRGs headquarters, and discovered careers in marine science with the LES Ecology Center and BioBus.
