The B Word
Avast, a salty-tongued sea dog has named his loyal companion after...an ex-wife? Maybe the boat just doesn't steer that well and he's not a fan of it. Avert your eyes, children!
I liked this quite a bit in black & white, but the shot ended up with a purplish cast that I liked and was able to amp up with some white balance tweaks — this was shot several minutes after the sun had set and much of the warmth had left the sky.
The lighting was pretty challenging, and although I'm certainly not a master of composition or whatnot, lighting/exposure is definitely my biggest weakness as a photographer. This was one of the slowest passable handheld shots I've ever managed, since I was able to brace against a railing.
