Hope for Gilad Shalit / protest tent in Jerusalem 7/17/2011
We went to Israel in July and came across the Gilad Shalit protest tent after getting totally lost trying to find the highway back to Tel Aviv. I snapped this pensive volunteer from the driver's side window.
Nearly two years ago the Shalit family set up a table on the street leading to the Prime Minister's residence in Jerusalem. Passers-by were asked to sign their petition to increase international awareness of their son's abduction by Hamas militants in a 2006. Their activism slowly expanded along the north side of the street and the resulting "tent" as described in the media is actually made from long chains of tarps and sheets covered with signatures and statements of hope.
