“When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.”

This unique cover art for the Laurel Leaf Library hardcover and paperback editions of S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders was printed from June 1969 until at least July 1974. I wish I knew the name of the artist and whether or not the five figures shown here were drawn/painted from live models.

I think this jacket art is realistic - just like the story. It's not often that a book cover is an accurate indication of the story inside.
