Martin Gardner - Puzzlemaster
Portrait of Martin Gardner made by coloring the individual tiles on a kite and dart Penrose tiling. Gardner introduced the world to these tilings in his famous Scientific American column in January, 1977. Kite and dart tilings are never periodic, but this particular tiling exhibits fivefold rotational symmetry. It was made in Mathematica using seven deflation iterations, and starting from a collection of five kites. The sequence of deflations can be seen here.
