The Promise defines the word oath as: the form of words in which a statement or promise is made.

Every time I look at my wedding ring, I am reminded of my oath, my promise to my wife, my wedding vows. They were based on 1 Corinthians chapter 13 in the bible where it teaches God's definition of love. That day, I said to her, "I promise to be patient and kind. I promise to not be envious or boastful or proud. I promise not to be rude or self-seeking. I promised to not be easily angered and to keep no record of wrongs. I promise to rejoice in the truth and always protect you, always trust , always hope and persevere. I make this promise in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit."

And after four and a half years, the desire to keep these vows, the effort to fulfill this oath has made our marriage strong. The ring doesn't remind me that I'm married, it lets everyone know that I'm no longer single.
