Boeing, DARPA to design fighter-based satellite launch vehicle
Boeing and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency are working on an innovative launch vehicle that would be carried by an F-15E multirole fighter and provide a more affordable, responsive way of getting nanosatellites to orbit. Boeing will design the Airborne Launch Assist Space Access (ALASA) vehicle under an 11-month, $30.6 million contract, with options to build up to 12 vehicles and conduct flight tests.
