The 11-mile Kalalau Trail is considered one of the 10 most dangerous hikes in the world. Anyone is allowed to hike the first two miles, but after that, a permit is required.
At the end of the first two miles of the trail is Hanakāpī'ai Beach. Even getting to the actual beach was tricky because you had to cross a stream that was flowing pretty well.
Right before getting to the beach, there's a sign that says, "WARNING: DO NOT GO NEAR THE WATER. UNSEEN CURRENTS HAVE KILLED: 82 VISITORS."
The "82" was ominously written in hash marks.
