soul theft

this is a snapshot™

but is it theft?

this person has no knowledge whatsoever that he has been photographed.

and no knowledge whatsoever he is now a part of my stream as a piece of work.

is this reasonable?

or is it an offence with respect to his privacy?

i happen to think that the best photographs of people are candids.

in my very humble opinion, formal portraiture runs a poor [and conceptually different] second.

the thing that made me consider this particular issue was an occurrence that left me quite shaken.

i was bringing the camera up to get another one of these pictures [the bus conveniently runs past my house] and a young guy on the back seat of the bus looked straight at me.

only for a moment.

but such a psychologically powerful moment!

i suddenly stopped being anonymous, i stopped being hidden.

i have to say this did shock me.

and gave me pause for thought.

is this theft?

is this reasonable?

i will be interested to hear opinion with regard to this subject.

as i am not revealing any 'information' about this person [you can only assume from a photograph, you cannot know], i am abivalent with regard to the issue. though the issue does interest me very much indeed.

i do feel slightly uncomfortable about this type of photograph, but the ability to take this type of photograph outweighs the discomfort.

what think thee?
