Camassia quamash ssp. quamash

Small camas. Unfortunately this plant likes the exact same places as humans & cows- moist springs & meadows- so there aren't many fields of it left. This is one of those places being loved to death- Leavenworth Ski Hill, where over the years I've seen the patch of hundreds dwindle down to less than 50 & other flowering species in the meadow too have disappeared.

They have had a ski hill here forever with very little change there- I believe its mainly because they keep haying the entire field at the wrong time before the plants can even set seed- because of fire danger & they have an increasingly popular outdoor theatre and so there is more foot traffic. Poor plants hardly have a chance to bloom & they are cut down & we wonder why there are less of them. Anyway- don't trample the meadow even if it is dry either please.
