We went out last night to take a gander at the Quadrantids meteor shower. The biggest and best ones we saw without capturing them, but the photo on the right you can see the start to one that lasted at least 10-15 seconds. Enough time for me to see it, yell at my boyfriend to look, and for him to look up and watch it go across the sky. It was the first time he has ever seen a meteor and he was very excited. It made a big thunderous sound. I thought it was a 18 wheeler truck but then I realized it was 2:30 am and no trucks would be out in the middle of nowhere.
I used a 30mm digital lens, not full-frame friendly BUT the detail outside the circle of good definition is worth it. I have a 35mm lens but I just wanted that extra 5mm. Oh, and it was 15 degrees out.
p.s. I have no idea why the quality is so poor on flickr.
