      that's the sort of thing i used to do as a kid (write notes to be discovered by whomever and leave them in odd places). i'd be delighted to find one myself.

      He does indeed still have the note - it's pinned to his kitchen wall!
      I'm very glad that he filled in the pond, 'cos his two little goblins would surely have got up to mischief in it.
