PLASTIRAS LAKE, THESSALY, GREECE #4543A
Plastiras Lake is an artificial environment which was created in the plateau of Nevropolis nearby Megdovas river.
The creation of Lake Plastiras was the conception of Nicholas Plastiras, a Greek General and Politician, who served thrice as Prime Minister of Greece.
In 1925, whilst on holiday in the region, he conceived the idea of creating a holiday resort by creating a barrier to form an artificial lake. Closing Megdovas River, a tributary of the Achelous, and then diverting the waters to the plain of Thessaly, would provide energy, but also give life to the plains of Thessaly, which suffered from summer droughts.
