Carcinisation

The Porcelain crab is actually a relative of the squat lobster and not a true crab. In this case a non-crab like animal has evolved into an animal that resembles a true crab, this is called carcinisation. Porcelain crabs have three pairs of walking legs unlike a true crab which has four. The porcelain crabs are fragile and will shed their limbs to escape predators, hence their name.
