The Salon Project: Congratulations!
I'm thrilled that The Salon Project has been nominated for two CATS: Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland.
I documented The Salon Project for the two weeks of its run at Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre last year, and I described it at the time as one of the most creatively rewarding projects with which I'd had the privilege to be involved. Each evening, a group portrait was taken. This is the only group portrait which isn't composed properly - it's too tight, so much so that the end of the dress of the woman at the far right has been cut off - but I've uploaded it, rather than one of the others, because it's more personal to me.
As the photographer, I didn't feature in the group portraits except in this one, taken on the night of the last performance, when I set the camera to self timer and walked to take my place in the empty seat which had been left for me (I'm in the red jacket in the front row, centre-right). The memory of that walk is so vivid: when I play it back in the cinema of my mind it seems to take place in slow motion.
Congratulations to all involved!
I've uploaded this at a larger size than I usually do. Press 'L' to view large.
My photographs from the project are collected here, in this set.
