Ancestor Worship

    Newer Older

The first thing we must do on arriving at my gran's house at the beginning of a trip - and the last thing before leaving - is to pray to our ancestors and to Kun Lam, the Goddess of Mercy. This involves bowing before a shrine with three lit sticks of incense, which we then place in the shrine while my gran recites prayers. Here, she stands with some lit incense while my sister and I move around the several little shrines in her house.

    Hong Kong, 2012.
