Computer Games Have No Respect
"Computer Games, and Players, have no respect for you" by Gayle Gertler, who was stepping in for the regular columnist, Mark Patinkin. A wonderful alternative view of text adventures in 1985, decrying the difficulty of the puzzles, the sarcastic tone of the games, and the general meanness of the experience. Notably, she speaks of the interactivity in glowing terms throughout her backhanded hatred of them. The yellow-outlined part is about Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is what the clipping service focused on. From the Providence Journal-Bulletin (now called the Providence Journal), Wednesday, January 16, 1985.
Since I'm just that way, I can tell you that Gertler stayed with the Journal at least up into the 2000s, eventually becoming Northwest Regional Editor, and she has since opened a store in Providence, called "The Southwest Passage". www.southwestpassage.net/home.html
