A closer view of a large flock of Snow Geese that have just taken flight on December 21, 2009. Thousands of Snow Geese make the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge their winter home.
They spend most of their time grazing on wheat and other green sprouts planted for them in the fields along Wildlife Road. After feeding for a while they will all take flight and head for the nearby waters of Lake Texoma. It is a breathtaking site to see them take flight.
Here is a great video clip by Mike Hollingshead showing snow geese at a different Wildlife Refuge, but what I saw at Hagerman was similar to this:
