Hive from pots
I LOVE this hive. I would like to try one at site. In our area, pots like this are cheaper than wood and cheaper also to transport. It's tricky making the holes for the bees, though. These were broken in the process of doing that and then repaired with epoxy. If I can make a good one that works, then I can probably have the potters custom make the holes before firing.
I like this not only for the ease of construction, but because I suspect the bees might like the shape, and it seems easy to remove a pot from the top and leave the brood area at the bottom alone, with a stash of honey for the bees. It just feels like this would be a good hive.
My supervisor thinks that kids would be more likely to damage these hives and steal the honey.
