Larry's, Columbus, Ohio, 1986
The assignment for photography class was to capture motion. My first attempt was of some folks playing pool, but the instructor walked into class, took a look at our photos for that day, and told us all what a crap job we'd done. The entire class had to do the assignment over.
This was my second attempt. Did I carefully reshoot and print the assignment? No. I walked into the darkroom with twenty minutes before the start of class, printed this negative on my one last piece of photo paper, slapped it on a board, and went to class.
The instructor, a Larry's regular (of course), raved about it. I still don't know if I could tell you what made this better than the other one, but I'm glad. Now I have a print of a place that I'll always remember.
This was taken from the storeroom in back; it had a little ventilation window that I could get to with a ladder. No one noticed me up there taking photos.
