Different Lighting in Macrostacking

A comparison of diffent lighting for a macro stack of a housefly. A sequence of about 130 images have been shot with the automatic macro rail shown here, but only approximately 15 frames were taken for these compared images.

The left shows the results whith a polarizer on the lens and in front of the flash (I'm preparing an article about that). One is with the polarizer filter on the lens adjusted for maximum effect, the second with minimized effect (comparable to a bare flash I think).

The right side shows results with a diy diffusor, as shown in the comments, at the flash, either with or without the polarizer filter on the lens. An interesting effect is that one can adjust the direction of light with the polarizer filter when using the ring diffusor with non-polarized light.

Click HERE(!) for a higher resolution version of all the images one under another or click here for an deeper stack of the ring-plus-polarizer version.

Feedback is appreciated!
