Each New Year's Day my daughter invites friends, family, strangers and anyone who wants to come to her house for a Lox and Bagels brunch. Then at about 11:00 AM every one is given a helium balloon, asked to make a personal silent wish for the coming New Year. Then we adjourn to the yard and simultaneously release our balloon. It has become her tradition over the past 9 years or so. Her new husband and his family has embraced the tradition with enthusiasm.
This year the weather was great and the helium was excellent. The balloons went straight up, stayed in a tight pattern and floated away. The year that my mother-in-law died (2007) the balloons were dedicated to her. This year I dedicated mine to my Mother-in-law who died last January 2. They both loved this tradition and loved watching the balloons floating away.
