Blue Sentries Stand Guard.

Ar 2,325m Arequipa is a good place to stop for a few days to acclimatise before moving on inevitably, to the Inca Trail. You could easily lose half a day at the Convent de Santa Catalina, and if you were really keen you could lose another half day all over again just taking pictures. Even in that bright sunlight in the middle of the day, the amount of shady archways and bright painted colours around the place, provides a photographic cornucopia!

30 nuns still live a cloistered life here but it wasn't always that way - Monasterio de Santa Catalina (as it is more accurately called) has a risque history!
