Refugee kid in the park. Taking a break before moving north.
Over the last week refugees have been arriving in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki, yet another way station on their fraught travels from places such as Syria, Afghanistan and Iran to a better future in some part of the EU.
This group friends and family members, are part of that movement, leaving parts of the world torn apart by war or economic catastrophe. Without money they are hoping to walk to their final destinations in northern European countries. Men, women and kids, some little more than toddlers forced to rough it and risk not just the elements but also hostile authorities intent on sending them back.
Only yesterday the police in Thessaloniki were rounding up newly arrived immigrants and deporting those without "suitable" documentation.
