＃7 - 051_SC_springbento
Here is my Spring Contest bento entry.
I made it for my 6 year old son to take to school with him. For this bento, as with all the bento I make for him, I try to make sure he gets a balance of nutrients to keep him energized throughout the day. I always make sure there is some kind of protein; here I gave him chicken in Korean barbeque sauce. He's not a big fan of plain rice, so I mixed with furikake. I also try to give him as many different color vegetables as I can, even if it's just one or two pieces of each; here he gets steamed broccoli and peapods, raw carrots, and satsumaimo, which I dyed naturally using beet juice. I cut them into tiny Japanese maple leaves, to celebrate the spring bloom of these trees. I have one in my garden which has just opened its leaves this very week, yay! I also always give him some fruit; in this case some slices of blood orange, a clementine and a sliced strawberry.
I chose this bento for my entry because I like the balance of colors and foods as well as the fancy cutting effects, which don't take long but which add a lot of aesthetic appeal. I don't always have time to make charaben, but with cutters I can quickly make a healthy bento look pretty as well.
Thanks a lot for hosting the contest!
