Oliver Cast Party 1

Oliver! Cast Party

My daughter had her stage debut in the Waimea Community Theater production of Oliver!, whose last show was 27 Sunday, 2011. To celebrate the close of a really good show, the cast threw a party at Hapuna Beach the following Sunday.

I decided to fly my camera. The wind started off nice and steady, but slowly died off toward afternoon. Overcast skies kept the beach cool, and made for nice soft portrait light. Low altitude KAP wound up being the tool of choice.

Up until one of the kids started throwing sand at the camera. Then higher altitude seemed like a really REALLY good idea! I kept tabs on the sand, and kept it at least ten feet from the lens. (A kid can only throw sand so high...)

My favorite part of this shot is the autofocus. The people are slightly fuzzy. The foreground sand is quite sharp! Kudos to Canon for making an autofocus system that can pull off something like this. I'm impressed.
