Yugen*

/On the motives of Zeami, Mishima Yukio, Tanizaki Junichiro and of my own play "Boudoire"(please, see note on photo)./

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For this work I used a silk scarf "La Parisienne" from Christian Dior "Collection Foulards automne-hiver 1996" Plus -an old pre-war photo post-card (from my private antique postcards collection).

I.

"I allow my imagination to roam freely over all sorts of possibilities - discarding one for another and then another - until in the tightening grip of jealousy and rage..................

At that moment I felt I had burst into another world..... This was reality, the past was only illusions...."

II.

"If it is Courvoisier that brought me that illusion I"d like to have it often."

Tanizaki Junichiro.

III.

*"YUGEN" - the deep-laid essence of the occurrences and of the events. The concealed or innermost Beauty of all the things of this phenomenal World.

Yugen is in the majestic phenomenas and in the insignificant one. Yugen is in the wretched or even in the absurd. That"s the Beauty of genuine and of true!

Yugen - is the central conception of Zeami** aesthetics.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**ZEAMI Motokiyo - an outstanding Japanese playwriter (1363-1443). A theorist and actor of the classic Noh-drama.

Almost 120 plays of Zeami are in the modern repertoire of the Noh-theater.
