A Walk in The Park
The day started at 4:30 AM for a three hour ride to the base of the Mountain. The Morning was nice and cool, and we travelled through some of the most beautiful countryside, that was also veiled in a thick summer mist.
I knew very little about Oominesan, other than there was something about being held over a cliff and asked if you were being a good boy and making your parents proud, and, according to my boss, "that hike is very very steep, ha ha ha." During the ride I asked and found that all told it would be about a 16 kilometer hike, up and back down the mountain, not a long day by any means. On arriving I also found out that it was a very popular pilgrim mountain, probably passed 300 some other hikers/pilgrims young and old, some dressed modernly and others dressed in the traditional yamabushi style. About halfway through and leading up until 2 kilometers left to the top I realized my boss was full of it, and that this hike was nothing, it was a walk in a beautiful and lush and holy park.
