Beam me up!
Hard work is probably the best way to describe this. Soft snow and a heavy pack make for really slow progress. Two steps up and one step back. Slowly though we were beginning to see ourselves at near the same height of those mountain ranges we had been looking at.
More lenticulars filled the sky like alien ships but unfortunately they didn't beam us up. No, we walked. The weather though, true to the lenticular prediction began to turn. We had just reached the ridge where we were, for the first time, able to see down on to the Mueller Glacier. Thankfully at this point the terrain flattens out somewhat leaving us an easier trip to Mueller Hut.
This is a pretty spectacular and intense way to begin the trip. First day...up...1000m...thank goodness for the view ;)
