Take a walk with me to Dawson Falls
The Murtle River on its descent from Murtle Lake to the Clearwater River falls over seven major waterfalls. Above Dawson Falls are McDougall, Meadow, Horseshoe and Majerus Falls, while below Dawson are the Mushbowl and finally Helmcken Falls.
Dawson Falls spans 90m (295 ft) across and tumbles 20m (66 ft) over a lava ledge. The falls plunge on the far side of the river, cascade on the near side at the viewing location and drop to a wide platform in the centre.
Dawson Falls was formerly famous for a cave that allowed dramatic access behind the roaring water of the falls. However, the cave collapsed in 1990, the end result of the slow erosive process.
