Male Rufous Hummingbird

These beautiful little jewels are such amazing birds; they are about the size of my thumb. The Rufous hummingbird has the longest migration route of any North American hummingbird along the coast in the spring and down the Rocky Mountains after breeding. They will travel as far South as Mexico for the winter. Every year, a male Rufous is always the first hummingbird to arrive at my feeding station :)

I love how the tail feathers flip up when they fly backwards. Enjoy this amazing little creature.
