Santiago Roncagliolo
Mounting the main staircase of the Central Library one could sense a distinct buzz of anticipation for the appearance of first time Peruvian novelist Santiago Roncagliolo . In appearance just a little hairier than his publicity shot he read an excerpt from the blackly humorous Red April, and discussed with the ever adroit Alan Taylor the nature of Latin American fiction and politics.

The growing appeal of City Reads was demonstrated by a number of questions from the audience in Spanish, and we suspect Santiago will not lack an audience when he returns for this year's Book Festival.
