Windsor Castle on the way to Tokyo

Windsor Castle is an official residence of The Queen and the largest occupied castle in the world. A Royal home and fortress for over 900 years.

Windsor Station is a former railway station in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, formerly serving as the city's Canadian Pacific Railway Station. It also served as the headquarters of CPR from 1889 to 1996(WIKI).

Windsor Castle is a royal residence at Windsor in the English county of Berkshire. The castle is notable for its long association with the British royal family and for its architecture. The original castle was built in the 11th century after the Norman invasion by William the Conqueror. Since the time of Henry I, it has been used by succeeding monarchs and it is the longest-occupied palace in Europe.

Windsor Castle occupies a large site of more than thirteen acres (five hectares), and combines the features of a fortification, a palace, and a small town. The present-day castle was created during a sequence of phased building projects, culminating in the reconstruction work after a fire in 1992. It is in essence a Georgian and Victorian design based on a medieval structure, with Gothic features reinvented in a modern style. Since the 14th century, architecture at the castle has attempted to produce a contemporary reinterpretation of older fashions and traditions, repeatedly imitating outmoded or even antiquated styles. As a result, architect Sir William Whitfield has pointed to Windsor Castle's architecture as having "a certain fictive quality", the Picturesque and Gothic design generating "a sense that a theatrical performance is being put on here", despite late 20th century efforts to expose more of the older structures to increase the sense of authenticity. Although there has been some criticism, the castle's architecture and history lends it a "place amongst the greatest European palaces".

Last Saturday my day out was Windsor a lovely town that I had not been to for a lot of years. I just had to go in the castle even though I had to queue for a while. It was so busy there so many tourists, I did enjoy my day and so pleased to revisit.

Happy Friday

Originally built in the 11th century and one of the residence of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

Got very bored on New Year Eve 31-Dec-2013, so i went to Windsor to capture some Xmas Decor and last sunset of 2013. But due to cloudy weather sun disappeared very quickly. Windsor is almost 40 to 45 minutes Walk away from Slough where i live, so i decided to walk to Windsor. At Windsor Royal Shopping Centre which is just next to Windsor Train station, After waiting for 4 hours, i got lucky and captured this clear shot. I Could've experimented more with different and better compositions but It was so freezing, that i was not able to feel my hands while pressing the shutter. But After taking so many Crap shots with frozen hands and running nose, i thought this shot was worth the effort and patience.

Construction on the current bridge was started in 1822 and it opened on June 1, 1824. The bridge has three arches, each comprising seven cast iron segments, and supported in mid-stream by two granite piers.

Built as a road bridge, tolls were originally levied on traffic crossing the bridge. Following some protests and a case, The Mayor &c. of New Windsor and ano. v Joseph Taylor which went to Britain's highest court, the House of Lords, these tolls were scrapped in 1897. In the 20th century the bridge carried the A332, the busy main road between Slough and Windsor.

In 1970, cracks were discovered in some of the cast iron segments, and despite local protests it was decided to close the bridge to all vehicular traffic. All such traffic must now travel between Windsor and Eton via the Queen Elizabeth Bridge on Windsor's by-pass.

In 2002 the bridge was refurbished, with repairs to the structure and new parapets including integral lighting. The bridge deck was replaced using Yorkstone and seating areas provided. The bridge remains in use by pedestrians only and provides an excellent walking route from central Windsor to Eton's High Street, and a good viewing spot for both the river and Windsor Castle.

Close to Windsor Castle, the Guildhall was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and finished in 1689. The Guildhall was the venue for the civil wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles on 9th April 2005.

"Windsor Royal Shopping" (Centre) is located opposite Windsor castle in the grade II listed Victorian Railway Station. Many of the original features remain, including Jubilee arch, the cobbled stones and Queen Victoria's Royal Waiting Room.

Le centre commercial "Windsor Royal" est situé dans la gare ferroviaire datant de l'époque victorienne, qui a conservé intact ses rues pavées, son arche et sa salle d'attente... Une brillante architecture.

The castle's lavish, early 19th-century State Apartments are architecturally significant, described by art historian Hugh Roberts as "a superb and unrivalled sequence of rooms widely regarded as the finest and most complete expression of later Georgian taste". The castle includes the 15th-century St George's Chapel, considered by historian John Robinson to be "one of the supreme achievements of English Perpendicular Gothic" design.

Originally designed to protect Norman dominance around the outskirts of London, and to oversee a strategically important part of the River Thames, Windsor Castle was built as a motte and bailey, with three wards surrounding a central mound. Gradually replaced with stone fortifications, the castle withstood a prolonged siege during the First Barons' War at the start of the 13th century. Henry III built a luxurious royal palace within the castle during the middle of the century, and Edward III went further, rebuilding the palace to produce an even grander set of buildings in what would become "the most expensive secular building project of the entire Middle Ages in England".[3] Edward's core design lasted through the Tudor period, during which Henry VIII and Elizabeth I made increasing use of the castle as a royal court and centre for diplomatic entertainment.

Windsor Castle survived the tumultuous period of the English Civil War, when it was used as a military headquarters for Parliamentary forces and a prison for Charles I. During the Restoration, Charles II rebuilt much of Windsor Castle with the help of architect Hugh May, creating a set of extravagant, Baroque interiors that are still admired. After a period of neglect during the 18th century, George III and George IV renovated and rebuilt Charles II's palace at colossal expense, producing the current design of the State Apartments, full of Rococo, Gothic and Baroque furnishings. Victoria made minor changes to the castle, which became the centre for royal entertainment for much of her reign. Windsor Castle was used as a refuge for the royal family during the bombing campaigns of the Second World War and survived a fire in 1992. It is a popular tourist attraction, a venue for hosting state visits, and Elizabeth II's preferred weekend home.

This is the Windsor Castle Barnes, Smithfield, Virginia. It was a former plantation and now is a public park in Smithfield, Virginia, United States. It dates to a land grant of 1,450 acres (590 ha) by the King of England to Arthur Smith in 1637.

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and the Official Residence of Her Majesty The Queen. Its rich history spans almost 1000 years.

Through the decades, thousands have driven a winding road from Port Gibson, Mississippi, to see the stately columns which are all that remain of Windsor, one of the most magnificent homes in the antebellum South. Windsor, built between 1859 and 1861, was the home of Smith Coffee Daniell II, a wealthy planter who had extensive properties in the Delta and in Arkansas. Completed in 1861, the home was the largest house built at that time, the plantation once covering over 2,600 acres. From the elaborate furnishings to the wrought iron staircase, the four-story home was designed to reflect the height of Southern life at the time. The mansion contained 25 rooms with 25 fireplaces, a basement containing a school room, dairy, and supply rooms.

Unfortunately Smith Daniell only lived in the large mansion for a few weeks before he died. The home survived the war only to be totally destroyed on February 17, 1890, by a fire said to have been caused by a party guest who carelessly dropped a cigarette. Today, all that remains of Windsor are twenty-three Corinthian columns on the site. The wrought iron staircase is now a part of nearby Alcorn State University. Windsor Ruins has appeared in several feature films including Raintree County (1957), which starred Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Cliff.
