Cross Plains State Park, Wisconsin. In this photo, there are six distinct wildflowers: Black-eye Susan, Joe Pye Weed, Pale Indian Plantain, Queen Anne's Lace, Wild Bergamont and Yellow Coneflower. In my eight years of photographing this prairie, I have never seen such a density of wildflowers and such a diversity of wildflowers within a small area of the prairie. I am unsure of the cause, but it may be the significant change in our weather in 2017.
This graceful wildflower is actually a deep violet color. If you look in my wildflower set, you'll see some pictures I took of them last year in their true color. However, the more I worked with this picture, the more I found the flowers wanted to be white, so I present them as they want to be, rather than as they are.
Like wildflowers;
you must allow yourself to grow
in all the places people thought
you never would.
Happy Fenced Friday!
My wife and son when to the park and brought me a wonderful posie of flowers (some very common wildflowers, seen as weeds by the grass cutters at the park). They are nice bright spot in the corner. I'd much rather have a small pot of bright seasonal wildflowers than a massive bunch of flamboyant blooms (but maybe that's just me?).
Texas wildflowers are in full bloom and my wife is crazy collecting each one of them. She's going to post it on her Flickr account, you can visit her stream on this link: www.flickr.com/photos/nenphotos/

Wildflowers in Terry Hirshey Park, Buffalo Bayou, Houston, TX. I tried for a softer feel with this, with a background that faded in and out, and the focus on the color rather than sharp detail, like a watercolor, except I didn't want to use the cheesy PS filter:). I was going to crop it down more, but really liked the detail in the green background, so left it as is

Summer wildflowers of the ocean marshland, Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary, Westham Island, British Columbia. The Pacific flyway is quiet this time of year, but the marshlands are full of wildflowers that will go to seed in time for the fall migration southward of the huge flocks of birds. The smoke from the BC wildfires resulted in a diffused filtered light enabling me to shoot mid-day without a lot of blown highlights.

Wildflowers do much more than add beauty to the landscape. They help conserve water, reduce mowing costs, provide habitat for birds, butterflies and other wildlife, protect the soil and save money on fertilizer and pesticides. Also, as Lady Bird Johnson said, native plants "give us a sense of where we are in this great land of ours."
