Wildflower Wonderland
12 x 16 oil on canvas
The deserts are alive with color due to our winter rains. This was a lot of fun to paint!

Well, its that time of year again....Wildflower season is upon us here in the Northwest....I took off Saturday morning to one of my favorite locations and was greeted with this nice sunrise...there was a very thin break in the sky between the horizon and the clouds as you see here and after the sun was up just enough the color all faded again as the sun went behind the clouds....
It's still early and for all of you who have us Northwest Photographers as contacts I am sure you will be seeing some amazing images as the wildflower season gets into full swing....

Have no idea what kind of wildflower in evening bokeh. Please understand I have been just posting a few images and not commenting on other flickr images for the last two weeks. I have been with my Mother in the hospital with my Mother she had a massive heart attack at the age of 87. She didn't survive and I lost my sister a month ago.
I find the best wildflowers happen to have dew on them. :) Mmm.. such a nice sunny morning too. It was a good day that.
She's faced the hardest times you could imagine,
And many times her eyes fought back the tears.
And when her youthful world was about to fall in
Each time her slender shoulders bore the weight of all her fears,
and her sorrow no one hears, still rings in midnight silence,
in her ears...
Let her cry, for she's a Lady
Let her dream, for she's a Child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower, growing wild.
And if by chance, I should hold her,
Let me hold her for a time;
But if allowed just one posession,
I would pick her from the garden, to be mine.
Be careful how you touch her, for she will waken;
and sleep's the only freedom that she knows.
And when you walk into her eyes, you won't believe;
The way she's always payin' for a debt she never owed,
and the silent wind still blows, that only she can hear,
And so, she goes.
Let her cry, for she's a Lady
Let her dream, for she's a Child
Let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower, growing wild.

Have a Blessed Sunday to all my Flickr Friends!!!
After shooting Star Trails from 3am till 5:30am with Nathan www.flickr.com/photos/0mega/ we decided to head down and shoot the wildflowers near the river. We had some decent color but with my camera settings from shooting the star trails and the use of a 3 stop soft grad, I ended up with some funky results like you see here!
The flowers you see here are Grass Widows. Shot at a higher ISO to help stop the little flowers from moving added some unwanted noise, so I decided to use a soft focus on this and help soften it up a bit giving it a dreamy effect.

Title inspired by an oldie but goodie song from my youth ~ “wildflower”, by the Canadian group Skylark:
Let her cry, for she's a lady
let her dream, for she's a child
let the rain fall down upon her
She's a free and gentle flower,
growing wild
Table Mountain Wildflowers. I'm trying to figure out what this is. I'm not sure if it is an indian paintbrush or some type of clover. The large pink one was about 4-5 inches tall. Gorgeous with the lupins as a backdrop!
No matter how chaotic it is, wildflowers will still spring up in the middle of nowhere.

A mix of native California wildflowers planted in December has started flowering at various places on campus.
On the High Sierra Trail looking down at Hamilton Lake, Sequoia National Park, California, you can see Indian paintbrush, wild onion, mustard, Bigelow sneezeweed, shooting stars, corn lily and other wildflowers dressing up the gray granite with carpets of color.

Bartholomew's Cobble in Sheffield, MA, is chock full of amazing wildflowers. Here you see phlox and columbine (the blurred orange flower) and yes, the humble dandelion.
Having trouble figuring this new flickr out. I think I might like it, but it's going to take me a while to get used to it, as I suspect it will for everyone. I do refuse to start uploading larger photos until I can be assured they won't be stolen, so I won't be taking advantage of that benefit, at least for now.
